Messaging Abuse Detection

The Messaging Abuse Detection module automatically analyzes inmate communications for prohibited language, gang-related content, threats, and contraband-related activity. Machine-learning flagging, keyword watchlists, and reviewer queues give investigators and compliance officers a proactive tool for identifying security risks before they escalate inside the facility.

🚨

Automated Flagging

Messages are scanned in real time against configurable keyword watchlists and behavioral pattern rules.

🔍

Investigator Review Queue

Flagged messages enter a dedicated review queue where investigators can confirm, dismiss, or escalate each alert with documented notes.

📝

Watchlist Management

Administrators maintain keyword and phrase watchlists, adjusting sensitivity levels and adding terms as intelligence evolves.

📊

Trend Analytics

View facility-wide abuse trends by date, housing unit, or keyword category to identify emerging security patterns over time.

HOW-TO GUIDE

Step-by-Step: Messaging Abuse Detection

1

Access Messaging Abuse Detection

Navigate to Inmate Communications > Messaging Abuse Detection from the main menu. The dashboard opens showing the current Alert Queue count, today’s flagged message volume, and any escalated items awaiting supervisor review.

Step 1
2

Review Flagged Messages

Click Alert Queue to see the list of flagged messages. Each row shows the inmate name, booking number, flag reason (keyword match or behavioral pattern), and the date and time of the message. Click a row to open the full message thread with matching terms highlighted.

3

Confirm, Dismiss, or Escalate

After reading the flagged message, use the action buttons: Confirm Violation to mark the flag as a genuine threat and trigger a classification review notification, Dismiss to mark it as a false positive with a required note, or Escalate to forward to a supervisor or investigative team.

Step 3
4

Manage Watchlists

Go to Settings > Watchlist Management to add, edit, or remove keywords and phrases. Enter a new term in the Add Keyword field, assign a Severity Level (Low / Medium / High / Critical), and click Save. Changes take effect on the next message scan cycle.

5

View Trend Analytics

Click the Analytics tab to see facility-wide abuse trends. Charts display flagged message volume by week, top triggered keywords, and flagging rates by housing unit. Use the Export button to download analytics as a CSV for intelligence briefings.

Step 5
6

Generate Abuse Detection Reports

Under Reports, select Abuse Detection Summary or Inmate Message History. Choose the date range and inmate scope (facility-wide or individual), then click Generate. Reports include all confirmed violations and reviewer notes, formatted for court submission or command review.

7

Configure Alert Notifications

In Admin > Notification Settings, assign which staff roles receive email or in-app alerts when a High or Critical severity flag is triggered. Set a Response Time SLA so unreviewed critical alerts automatically escalate to a supervisor after a defined number of hours.

💡 Pro Tips

  • Review dismissed flags periodically — if the same term is consistently dismissed, consider removing it from the watchlist to reduce false-positive fatigue among reviewers.
  • Spike in flagged message volume from a specific housing unit often precedes a facility incident; use the Trend Analytics housing-unit chart as an early warning indicator during daily briefings.
  • Confirmed violations are automatically linked to the inmate’s classification record, giving classification officers full context when making housing or privilege decisions without requiring a separate report request.
